Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on federal tax issues related to charitable and tax-exempt organizations, including public charities, private foundations, and educational institutions.
  • Advise clients on compliance with federal tax laws, including issues related to self-dealing, excess business holdings, taxable expenditures, and unrelated business income.
  • Handle matters involving governance, endowment, and investment policies for non-profit organizations.
  • Guide clients through complex tax and regulatory requirements for joint ventures and business activities.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing legal documents and filings related to tax-exempt status and regulatory compliance.
  • Represent clients in interactions with federal and state regulatory agencies.
  • Stay current on changes in tax legislation and regulatory developments affecting non-profit organizations.
  • Collaborate with other legal professionals and stakeholders to develop strategic solutions for clients.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Bar in Virginia or the ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience in a legal role focusing on tax issues related to non-profit organizations.
  • Proven experience with federal tax laws and regulations impacting charitable organizations and private foundations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple client matters simultaneously.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the Bar in Virginia or eligibility for admission.
