A law firm in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a Workers' Compensation Associate Attorney to represent injured plaintiff-employees in their workers’ compensation cases. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive legal advice and representation throughout all phases of workers’ compensation cases, from pre-litigation to post-trial. This role involves litigation, drafting legal documents, negotiating settlements, and ensuring clients obtain the benefits they deserve under the NC Workers’ Compensation Act. Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent injured plaintiff-employees in workers’ compensation cases across various stages, including pre- and post-litigation, discovery, and settlement negotiation.
  • Provide legal advice and representation to clients throughout their workers’ compensation cases.
  • Assist clients in obtaining benefits under the NC Workers’ Compensation Act.
  • Litigate workers’ compensation cases at the Deputy Commissioner, Full Commission, and Court of Appeals levels.
  • Draft pleadings, discovery documents, orders, and motions.
  • Negotiate settlement agreements, releases, and job resignations on behalf of clients.
  • Draft briefs for presentation at the Deputy Commissioner and Full Commission levels of the NC Industrial Commission and at the NC Court of Appeals.
  • Manage a high caseload and ensure timely and effective legal representation.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • License to practice law in North Carolina.
  • 1-3 years of experience practicing as an attorney in an established law firm, with a preference for experience in workers’ compensation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to self-motivate.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong ability to multi-task while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Office and ability to learn and use various software programs.
  • Knowledge of Litify software is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • License to practice law in North Carolina.

Skills:

  • Strong litigation skills and knowledge of workers’ compensation law.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents and briefs.
  • Effective negotiation skills for settlement agreements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows/Office and willingness to learn new software.
  • Experience with Litify software is a plus.
