Job Overview:

A prominent law firm located in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate Attorney or Patent Agent to join their Patent Prosecution & Litigation team. The successful candidate will focus on patent prosecution and litigation in the electrical engineering, software, and mechanical fields. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional with a strong background in intellectual property law and a passion for working on complex technical matters.

Duties:

  • Handle patent prosecution and litigation cases in electrical, software, and mechanical engineering fields.
  • Draft and file patent applications, conduct patent searches and respond to office actions.
  • Represent clients in patent disputes and litigation matters, including settlement negotiations and court appearances.
  • Advise clients on patent strategies, portfolio management, and IP-related issues.
  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues to provide clear and effective communication on legal matters.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in patent law and technology to ensure high-quality service.

Requirements:

  • Between 3-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, including application drafting.
  • Strong background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field such as mathematics or physics.
  • Demonstrated experience with patent litigation is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be admitted to the Texas Bar.
  • Must be registered with the USPTO.

Education:

  • A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related scientific field (e.g., mathematics, physics) is required.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration is required.
  • Texas State Bar membership is required.

Skills:

  • Patent prosecution and litigation experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in relevant engineering fields.
  • Excellent legal writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Effective client communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
