Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Associate Attorney to join its Intellectual Property Practice Group in Austin, TX. This full-time, onsite role offers the opportunity to work with a national and international client base across a range of industries. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patent drafting, particularly in the computer and electrical arts, and a desire to grow within a dynamic, technology-focused legal practice.

Duties:
Draft and prosecute U.S. patent applications, particularly in areas such as software, artificial intelligence, web applications, integrated circuits, and telecommunications
Provide strategic counseling on the development and management of patent portfolios
Collaborate with clients to understand innovations and translate them into high-quality patent applications
Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses
Work closely with team members and clients on IP strategy and portfolio development
Stay current with developments in U.S. patent law and emerging technologies
Requirements:
Experience in patent law, particularly in drafting complex software or computer-related patents
Strong client communication skills and ability to provide legal guidance on IP matters
Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school (for attorneys)
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
Certifications:
Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (required)
Admission to a U.S. State Bar (for Associate Attorney candidates)
Skills:
Strong technical writing and analytical skills
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear legal language
Knowledge of U.S. patent prosecution procedures and best practices
Experience with AI/ML, LLMs, and other emerging technologies is a plus
Excellent academic credentials and strong interpersonal communication skills
