A law firm seeks a Data Privacy & Compliance Associate Attorney with 2-5 years of experience in privacy law, focusing on key regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and CPRA. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in drafting and negotiating privacy and data security provisions within contracts, along with the ability to advise clients on compliance with privacy laws. This is a hybrid role based in Columbus, OH, offering flexibility for remote work. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team, handling complex legal matters and contributing to the firm's growth.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel to clients on privacy compliance, focusing on GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and other privacy laws.
  • Draft and negotiate privacy-related provisions in commercial contracts, including data protection and security clauses.
  • Assist clients in assessing and improving their data privacy practices and policies.
  • Conduct privacy audits and risk assessments for organizations to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Manage multiple client projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of services.
  • Stay informed on emerging privacy regulations and help clients navigate changes in the legal landscape.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including in-house counsel, data security professionals, and business stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex privacy and data security issues in clear, actionable terms to clients and internal teams.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in data privacy, compliance, or a related transactional legal field.
  • Strong knowledge of privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Experience with privacy audits, risk management, and compliance assessments.
  • Proficiency in drafting and negotiating privacy and data security provisions in commercial contracts.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to analyze and interpret complex legal issues.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to both legal and non-legal audiences.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Strong academic record preferred.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in a state bar association.
  • Privacy law certifications (such as CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or similar) are desirable but not required.

Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, CPRA).
  • Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent research and legal writing capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal matters in simple, understandable terms.
  • Experience managing client relationships and working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
