Job Overview: The Pro Bono Immigration Attorney will collaborate closely with the Chief Pro Bono Counsel to manage and enhance pro bono immigration services within a prestigious international law firm. This role involves supporting attorneys across U.S. offices, overseeing a diverse range of immigration cases, and contributing to the firm's commitment to pro bono work.

Location:

  • New York City, NY

Duties:

  • Manage and expand pro bono immigration matters, increasing attorney involvement in these efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Pro Bono Team to develop projects and clinics, including partnerships with corporate clients.
  • Build and maintain relationships with U.S. legal services agencies in various cities.
  • Mentor and supervise attorneys on immigration-related cases, providing resources and guidance.
  • Review submissions for USCIS and immigration courts, and support attorneys in preparation for interviews, hearings, and trials.
  • Stay updated on immigration laws and policies; provide targeted legal updates to attorneys.
  • Lead training sessions on immigration topics for the legal team.
  • Temporarily act as attorney-of-record when needed during attorney leaves or transitions.
  • Develop and update training materials, resources, and templates for immigration filings.
  • Manage the pro bono immigration docket, ensuring deadlines are met and cases are staffed appropriately.
  • Oversee recordkeeping systems and update policies and procedures as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • Active bar membership in good standing in the primary jurisdiction of practice
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in humanitarian immigration relief
  • Extensive knowledge of various areas of humanitarian immigration law, such as asylum, removal defense, naturalization, adjustment of status, TPS, humanitarian parole, SIJS, VAWA, and T and U visas

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree

Certifications:

  • Bar membership in good standing

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven commitment to protecting immigrants' rights
  • Experience within a corporate law firm environment
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor attorneys
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a capacity to teach immigration law
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken)
  • Willingness to travel and adjust work hours as needed to meet business demands

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Spanish or another language in addition to English
