Position Summary:
The Frank J. Remington Center (FJRC) is an experiential learning program at the University of Wisconsin Law School. One of the oldest, largest, and most diverse clinics in the country, the FJRC's clinical projects and staff are dedicated to educating students of law; providing free legal services to low income, incarcerated, and vulnerable populations; and informing and improving the criminal justice system through research, advocacy, and community outreach.
The Remington Center is seeking one clinical assistant or associate professor to work within our clinics, primarily within the Legal Assistance to Institutionalized Persons (LAIP) project. The initial clinical placement will be with LAIP, but could later change dependent upon the needs of the Remington Center and successful applicant's knowledge and experience.
In LAIP, law students enrolled in the clinic interview inmates in correctional institutions throughout Wisconsin, analyze the inmates' civil or criminal legal problems, and take steps to resolve these problems. The students enroll in LAIP full-time job in the summer (typically after the 1L year), and then continue in the Fall and Spring semesters for 3-4 credits each semester. Each clinical professor/instructor in LAIP supervises 6-7 law students beginning in the summer, and then continues with those same students in the Fall and Spring.
