Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is seeking an associate to join its Native American litigation team. This position is available in multiple office locations and offers an opportunity to practice in a prestigious Native American practice. The associate will represent tribes, tribal entities, and tribal members in complex legal issues surrounding tribal sovereignty, gaming, and self-determination. In addition, the associate will have the opportunity to engage in complex commercial and construction litigation. This position is ideal for candidates with experience or a significant interest in Federal Indian Law and litigation.

Location: San Francisco, CA  

Duties:

  • Represent tribes, tribal entities, and tribal members in matters related to tribal sovereignty, gaming, and self-determination.
  • Handle complex commercial and construction litigation cases.
  • Participate in litigation activities, including trial preparation, depositions, hearings, and oral arguments.
  • Draft and review legal documents such as motions, briefs, and pleadings.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and provide analysis for case strategies.
  • Collaborate with team members to manage litigation cases and client communications.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in litigation, particularly in Federal Indian Law and administrative law.
  • Strong interest in tribal sovereignty, gaming, and self-determination is preferred.
  • Experience with trial, depositions, hearings, and oral arguments is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of the jurisdiction where the position is based.

Skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research and analysis.
  • Ability to manage complex litigation matters effectively.
  • Experience with case management and legal documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in legal software and technology tools.
