Job Overview:
A boutique litigation law firm is seeking a skilled and independent Civil Litigation Associate Attorney to handle business litigation matters with minimal supervision. This fully remote opportunity is ideal for attorneys seeking a better work-life balance and the autonomy to manage their own caseload while receiving consistent support from legal assistants. The role is designed for attorneys who are self-starters, detail-oriented, and passionate about practicing law without excessive administrative burden or office distractions.

Duties:
Independently manage a caseload of business litigation matters in Virginia courts
Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and contracts
Prepare for and attend hearings, depositions, and other court proceedings
Collaborate with clients and legal team members to move cases toward resolution
Review and analyze legal issues, offer strategic counsel, and develop case strategies
Maintain regular communication with clients and provide responsive legal updates
Participate in brief daily check-ins, weekly case reviews, and monthly team virtual luncheons
Maintain thorough and organized case files using digital tools and platforms
Requirements:
3–6 years of litigation experience (prior work at a medium or large firm preferred)
Strong knowledge of Virginia state court procedures (federal court experience a plus)
Ability to independently litigate and manage files from start to finish
Excellent legal research, writing, and problem-solving abilities
Experience managing multiple deadlines and high-volume caseloads
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with minimal supervision
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law in Virginia (Required)
DC and/or Maryland Bar license is a plus
Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication
Case strategy and courtroom advocacy
Familiarity with legal research tools and case management software
Comfort with remote collaboration and legal technology (Zoom, Office 365, Clio, etc.)
Ability to manage time effectively and work independently
Proactive attitude with a focus on quality and efficiency
