School of Journalism

invites applications for a tenurable

Photo and Visual Journalism Assistant Professor

to oversee teaching at both undergraduate and master’s levels. This employee will start in the Fall of 2023 and will maintain an active research agenda or professional publication. This incumbent will also engage in professional and service activities.

Required Skills

Demonstrated ability to publish still and/or video work in regional or national news or equivalent outlets

Extensive familiarity with visual editing and industry standard software

Experience working in the field of photojournalism or equivalent areas

Minimum Required Experience

MA or MFA in photography, journalism or a related field and at least five (5) years’ experience publishing at the national or regional level or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

Prior teaching experience

Demonstrated ability to edit/mentor photo or video journalists

Demonstrated commitment to serving the needs of diverse students (e.g., Native Americans, first generation college students, non-traditional aged students, military veterans, etc.)

Relevant commercial experience

Demonstrated ability to engage with the journalism community

Excellent written and oral communication skills
