Jacksonville, Florida is a major commercial and transportation center and the largest city in the state of Florida, and the 13th largest in the U.S. As of 2009 it had a population of 813,518. The earliest settlers in 1564 were French Huguenots and they established Fort Caroline. This site is now marked by a national monument dedicated to the fort.
